Brenner Children’s Hospital, part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, is a leading pediatric healthcare center with 175 inpatient beds, including 11 in the PICU and 79 in the NICU. It admits about 4,500 children annually, handles over 50,000 pediatric specialty visits at its clinics, and receives around 36,000 ER visits yearly. The hospital boasts a team of 94 pediatric experts, with over 50 recognized among America’s Best Doctors. What You’ll Do: 

As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/NP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In this role, your weekly responsibilities will include providing inpatient pulmonary care, focusing on new and ongoing consultations. Additionally, you'll be assigned outpatient visits, dedicating focus on Pediatric Sleep. Part of your outpatient responsibilities will also involve conducting telehealth visits. Responsibilities include:

  1. Using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plan.
  2. Collaborates with medical team when needed for effective team-based care.
  3. Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.  Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  4. Procedural skills per department or practice guidelines.
  5. Opportunity to participate in basic science and clinical research projects.
  6. Potential for and encouraged to precept students and/or medical learners.
  7. Uphold AHWFB missions, values, and cultural commitment. 
  8. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.

Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements: 

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA
  • BLS required

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:

  • Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program, Master’s degree or higher required
  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license
  • Board certified in Nurse Practitioner specialty
  • Acute Care certification required
  • BLS required
