Cloud Operations Engineer

NexGen Data Systems is seeking a Cloud Engineer with experience supporting users and systems in a professional environment. The ideal candidate will be experienced in basic Windows and *nix server administration, system backups, Data Center, Private Cloud, Public Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, System Virtualization and have basic networking experience as well. The candidate will join a team of engineers and work in a collaborative multi-functional team environment. Certifications in respective areas are desired but not required. This position has remote work eligibility and is otherwise available for HYBRID work for candidates in Charleston, SC.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•        Perform lift and shift of systems from an On Premise environment to AWS
•        Perform routine administrative and maintenance functions (install, configure, patch, update, etc.)
•        Perform security hardening and work with IA/C&A teams to conduct security scans/audits and remediation.
•        Troubleshoot platforms in preproduction and production environments.
•        Monitor performance of remote and local systems to identify problems, and if needed, perform analysis to identify root cause of any performance issues and take appropriate corrective action to resolve issues.
•        Develop scripts to automate tasks, workflows, and processes.
•        Work with application owners and infrastructure team members (network, storage, IA, etc.) to optimize system performance.
•        Evaluate, design, and test new cloud-based systems and solutions sets.
•        Participate in the development and maintenance of system lifecycle documentation.

Requirements

Required/Desired Skills:
•        6+ years of experience working in a professional IT environment with an end user and system support.
•        Candidates should have some experience in the following:
•        Private Cloud, Public Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, Windows and *nix server administration, system backups, Data Centers, System Virtualization and have basic networking experience.
•        Lift and shift experience/moving systems from On Premise to AWS using a defined set of methodologies.
•        Supporting administrators of deployed systems
•        System backups and restores.
•        Implementing and controlling security to and from AWS assets
•        Understand high level cloud application architecture and provide initial analysis on incidents.
•        Selecting the appropriate AWS service based on compute, data, or security requirements.
•        Strong written and oral communication skills
•        Ability to work cooperatively in a multi-functional team environment (team player) is a must.
•        Basic networking experience beneficial
•        AWS Support Experience or equivalent:
•        S3 (creating, deleting, lifecycle policies, encryption, publishing static web sites)
•        IAM (Creating, deleting, key generation/suspension, JSON policies for users and all other resource types)
•        EC2 (Creating, deleting, restoring, networking, resource monitoring/adjusting)
•        Security groups, EBS volumes, snapshot/backups
•        Service Catalog
•        VPC (create, modify, delete)
•        MGN (AWS Application Migration Service) experience is a plus
