We are seeking to hire candidates for our Rail Vehicle & Equipment Body Rebuilder/Mech-2nd Class (0802).
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Assists in the rebuilding of various types of damaged rail vehicles.
Compensation Data
Pay Rate $27.64 / $31.22 per Hour. Increase to $29.21 / $31.61 per hour after 1 year
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the rebuilding of various types of damaged rail vehicles and in the performance of related duties under the general supervision of the Supervisor.
- Inspects to determine extent of repair required; makes and uses drawings or templates to procure replacement parts.
- Inspects, fabricates, repairs, straightens, renews, brazes, welds (using electric and acetylene methods), scrapes, paints, tests, removes, replaces, disassembles, realigns as required: truck and vehicle body parts; ferrous and non-ferrous metals, defective wood work, patterns for armature coils, cabinets, tool boxes, ladders, cashier booths and office furniture, concealed wood and metal surfaces, aluminum parts, machine parts, boiler sections, rear housing casings, armature shafts, overhead trolley fittings, brake castings, and other related items, parts and equipment.
- Performs vertical, horizontal, overhead and flat welding;
- Removes, replaces, disassembles, or repairs with/without removal, damaged parts such as fenders, bumpers, exterior and interior metal or Masonite panels; straightens, changes, realigns under frame, body structure and structural members of same, chassis, etc., cuts glass and glazes windshields, doors, windows; replaces, repair weather stripping, trims, molding, doors, stanchions, hardware, destination signs, cabinets, door engines and shelves, upholstery, seat frames, conductor's booths, sills, control compartment parts, door hinges, etc; lines with insulating materials; fabricates passimeter metal parts.
- Sets up and adjusts electric welding machine for proper polarity and current values; adjusts gauges for proper mixture for gas welding and cutting machine; selects proper electrodes and wires to be used; performs general repairs on welding equipment; prepares parts for welding setups by grinding or gas cutting; paddle solder panels and window frames on equipment.
- Designs special tools and fixtures; forges, fabricates and tempers tools for shop machinery such as turning, boring and planer tools; uses high speed steel; grinds and sharpens tools; grinds required truck and vehicle body parts; repairs or replaces parts of snow fighting and service equipment vehicles; sharpens and sets circular saw blades.
- Rivets; uses open fire; heats and rivets such parts as journal box shims, cradles, fulcrum arms, etc; strips and trims such items as hardware from lining and slide sash, interior and exterior sash, etc; disconnects ventilator; chips, scrapes, wire brushes rust from structural steel framework; paints concealed wood and metal surfaces.
- Inspects and repairs as required train line doors, air doors and tracks, locks and brakes.
- Prepares, repairs, sub and top floors of vehicles in accordance with pattern or plan; cuts, fits, lays, cements in place; patches or renews entire floor covering as required.
- Lays out, assembles, repairs (according to drawings and actual objects).
- Subject to call during storms and emergencies.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be an experienced vehicle Rebuilder with skills in sheet metal work, fiberglass repair, carpentry and welding.
- Possess ability to read and work from drawings and schematics.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
