Position Summary:
The Director of Environmental and Conservation is responsible for leading and managing the Quapaw Nation’s environmental and conservation initiatives. This role ensures the protection and enhancement of air, land, and water resources through strategic planning, scientific oversight, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. The Director supervises a multidisciplinary team including Engineers (Project and Program Managers) and Scientists (Coordinators), Grants and Data Analysis Managers, Specialists, and Technicians, ensuring effective collaboration and high-quality outcomes across all environmental and conservation programs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Protect and improve the natural resources of air, land, and water to provide a clean and healthy environment.
- Promote the principles of Tribal sovereignty, cultural enrichment, environmental stewardship, and holistic solutions to environmental challenges.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.
- Provide strategic leadership and supervision to a diverse team of environmental and conservation professionals.
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of environmental and conservation programs.
- Lead the development, submission, and management of environmental and conservation grant proposals and projects.
- Analyze environmental data, summarize trends, and make scientific judgments.
- Evaluate ongoing environmental projects and make adjustments as necessary to improve the level of service provided to the Tribe and its members.
- Interface with Tribal leaders and regulatory agencies to address longstanding environmental concerns and emerging issues.
- Ensure compliance with all Tribal, local, county, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.
- Plan and participate in public education and outreach events to promote heightened environmental awareness and stewardship.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
