Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

A full-time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Krushna Patra, PhD in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The research focus of the lab is to understand the interplay of cellular signaling, metabolism and gene regulation in the tumorigenesis processes. The employee will have the opportunity to be involved in the active research environment to answer important questions related to the development and treatment of pancreatic, lung and other gastrointestinal cancer. This experience will be valuable to pursue graduate school, medical school or other related higher studies. With substantial involvement in the research projects, the candidate may share authorship in the publications from the laboratory.

 

The primary duty of the position is to assist in performing experiments related to tissue culture (maintenance of cancer cells and organoids) and molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, biochemical assays and, western blot).

Essential Functions

  • Records data according to research protocols.
  • Perform experiments and record data according to research protocols
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.

  • Assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Apply research principals for less complex assignments.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. Organizational skill related to lab experiments and operation is an essential requirement.
  • The candidate must adhere to the lab and institution guidelines. This job description can be changed as per the requirement of the lab.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Prior laboratory research experience such as hands-on training in molecular biology techniques, knowledge in Microsoft word, excel and power point to record and organize experimental data, and animal (mouse) handling.
