Position Overview:

 

Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Temporary Part-Time Technical Assistant and Exhibitions Coordinator. This position will report to the Managing Director of the Sarofim School of Fine Arts. This position provides technical assistance to Studio Arts faculty in support of their classes in painting, drawing, and printmaking, and will serve as Exhibition Coordinator for student and professional exhibitions in the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery and informal exhibition spaces. This is a part-time temporary, non-exempt position eligible for our comprehensive benefits program and will work 30 hours per week.

 

Essential Duties:

 

·         Oversee the operation, maintenance, and overall safety of the painting, drawing, and printmaking studios.

·         Prepare classroom materials and technical demonstrations.

·         Supervise labs in painting and drawing.

·         Oversee inventory, ordering, delivery, storage, and upkeep of supplies and materials for the painting, drawing, and printmaking studios, as well as the Gallery.

·         Hire and supervise paid (Work Study) and enrolled students working in the studios and Gallery.

·         Hire and coordinate figurative models in painting and drawing.

·         Maintain and repair studio tools and equipment.

·         Assist faculty with exhibition program and help coordinate all student and professional exhibitions, including: contacting artists, arranging shipping, receiving and uncrating artwork, writing condition reports, creating publicity materials, arranging receptions, assisting in the design, installation and deinstallation of exhibits, repacking and shipping art works and preparing the Gallery for the next exhibit.  

 

 

Additional Duties:

 

·         Enact and maintain studio and Gallery safety programs, including MSDS records.

·         Construct and repair studio furniture, exhibit equipment and pedestals.

·         Other duties as assigned.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art (painting or printmaking).

·         Experience in setting up exhibits.

·         Proven ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and visiting artists.

·         Knowledge of painting, drawing, and printmaking methods and techniques.   

·         Ability to print lithographs and etchings, and familiarity with the safe use of printmaking chemicals and solvents.

·         Ability to demonstrate safe use of woodshop power tools and equipment.

·         Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, etc.

·         Excellent organizational skills.

·         Good carpentry skills.
