Project Engineer
Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Net Zero 2040 Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB owns and operates the publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network on the island of Ireland and are currently upgrading and expanding the ROI network and the NI infrastructure.
ESB is also expanding our EV charging network in Britain – with rapid-charging sites deployed to date in London, Birmingham and Coventry and a project pipeline for future city-wide projects and an anticipated portfolio of privately owned sites across the UK. ESB ecars’ strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport, is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network. ecars 2030 strategy in line with ESB’s Net Zero 2040 strategy calls for increasing our EV charger numbers across ROI and GB.
ESB ecars Infrastructure Delivery team is responsible for all aspects of the delivery of new EV charging infrastructure from planning to commissioning and handover to the operations team.
Key Resonsibilities
The EV infrastructure Project engineer will have the following responsibilities:
- Preparation of detailed site designs & associated risk assessments of EV charging installations.
- Prospective EV charging site assessment and review.
- Development of EV charging solution architectures for applications across UK & Ireland.
- Management of manufacturing and construction sub-contractors.
- Oversight and pre-commissioning of enabling works.
- Coordinating contractors who are delivering projects located over several client sites.
- Monitoring & reporting on programme progress.
- Monitoring quality of work from external contractors and reporting on same.
- Engaging with client representatives, project partners & contractors.
- Development and management of appropriate Health & Safety documentation & practices Carrying out audits (SHQE) on the works and produce snag lists on completion.
- Managing and tracking spend throughout the project.
- Input to procurement exercises including contributing to technical specifications, pricing schedules, tender evaluations and engagement with ESB’s procurement department.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Participate in or manage strategic projects.
- Move between various clients and projects as required.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- 5 - 7 years' experience in design and construction is essential.
- Excellent Project Management capabilities.
- Strong customer relations focus allied to robust understanding and awareness of commercial implications of project timelines, costing and works scheduling.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent customer relationship management, effective communication skills and ability to implement suitable business processes.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and other Customer Solutions businesses such as Smart Energy Services, to deliver overall company objectives.
- A proven ability to develop and manage the implementation of technical projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Project Management & Delivery experience including contractor management.
- Full clean driving licence
Location
The position will be based in ESB Offices in Santry in line with ESBs Smart Working arrangements.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.
Report to
The successful candidate will be reporting into the Manager, E-Cars, Customer Solutions.
