What will I be doing as a Laboratory Technician Apprentice?

BYK Additives Ltd. are pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity to both earn a salary and study towards a nationally recognised qualifications through our Level 6 (degree) Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. 

You will work as part of the technical team at BYK Widnes working flexibly across the technical department as required to meet the needs of the business. Alongside this, you will be responsible for laboratory-based tasks, which includes sampling, testing, measuring, recording, and analysing results. Adherence to laboratory procedures and health and safety guidelines is crucial at all times! 

You may be asked to work outside of your normal hours of employment and at weekends as the company considers necessary to meet the needs of the business.

• Prepare and analyse samples following strict methodologies to produce reliable and precise data 
• Record and interpret results in a timely manner 
• Issue technical reports within areas of responsibility 
• Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, for example, viscometers, conductivity and PH meters 
• Work both individually and as part of a laboratory team with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that is undertaken 
• Follow Quality and Health & Safety procedures to meet the requirements of the workplace 
• Maintain housekeeping standards at all times 
• General ad hoc responsibilities as required by the business
