Job Summary

The Dean, Alternative Credit Programs is a highly collaborative leader which will be responsible for enhancing academic quality, leadership excellence, student completion, and alternative credit program success in a dynamic higher education environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College

  • Strong experience in leading with theoretical and evidence-based approach to alternative credit programming.

  • Depth of understanding around certificate and associate degree mapping and design.

  • Knowledge of national credit review mechanisms like the American Council of Education (ACE), Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL) and Competency Based Learning (CBL).

  • Knowledge of best practices in competency-based education and prior learning assessment methods

  • Ability to research, collect and analyze data to make decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, develop, and lead a team in a mission-focused organization.

  • Highly collaborative leader who works well with various departments within Dallas College. Experience in transcript evaluations, residency, academic records, verification of credentials and other relevant articulation and records.

  • Self-directed with excellent project management, organizational and critical thinking skills, who can manage multiple priorities and complete tasks on time to lead operational planning.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in written and oral contexts with individuals and groups across the college and community.

  • Excellent time management, organizational and critical thinking skills.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree. Official transcripts are required.

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible teaching, administrative and educational leadership, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated success in comprehensive academic services; policy and curriculum, admissions, credit evaluations, and inter-college relations and work including but not limited to articulations, evaluations, policy, and curricular innovations of CBL, PLA, or similar experiences.

  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsite travel.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides institutional oversight of Alternative Credit, and Competency Based Learning (CBE). Ensures compliance with Dallas College, state, federal and accrediting agency policies.

  • Works closely with leadership, Vice Provosts, and other relevant collaborators on developing strategic and robust partnerships that help facilitate and expand alternative credit program collaborations with corporate entities.

  • Coordinates with college stakeholders to manage the night and weekend program at Dallas College.

  • Monitors and reports on credit for prior learning efforts with corporate partners in collaboration with relevant unit leaders.

  • Works thoroughly with Vice Provosts, Deans, and Faculty on aligning industry competencies and credentialing into key academic programs and alternative programming.

  • Works closely with Student Success on critical efforts to expand student opportunities for experiential learning consideration and alternative credit programming for post traditional students.

  • Works collaboratively with Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, eLearning, and the Academic Incubator in fostering excellence for all Alternative Credit Programming.

  • Serves on college task forces, committees and councils as required. Maintains ongoing communication with departments to foster an environment of academic excellence, and collaboration.

  • Oversee responsibility for directing the activities of the personnel engaged in performing the functions of the unit and assigned areas
