Position Description 

 

The Turf & Field Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience performing a variety of roles within a fast paced, behind-the-scenes environment, with the chance to have a direct impact on professional soccer in Kansas CitySporting Kansas City’s collaborative environment full of learning opportunities is designed to help all interns evolve their capabilities, challenge their strengths, and reach their fullest potential. This internship runs from May to August of 2026.

 

Sporting Kansas City internships allow students or recent graduates to hold a temporary position within the organization, with emphasis on training and gathering practical experience in their field of specialization by doing a variety of tasks as assigned by their Team Lead. The intern will gain hands-on experience working with the Turf & Field Operations Team in providing safe and aesthetically pleasing fields through timely agronomic planning. 

 

This intern must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Turf Management or related field, or must have recently achieved their Bachelor’s Degree in one of the previous fields.

Essential Functions 

  • Assist in the maintenance of landscape/common areas outside facilities when available. 

  • Assists the Turf Team in various duties ranging from field repair, mowing, work on synthetic fields, weed eating/trimming, irrigation repair, also working with the crew to gain knowledge of turfgrass practices. 

  • Ability to help at all SKC facilities including Children’s Mercy Park, Compass Minerals National Performance Center, Central Bank Sporting Facility, Swope Soccer Village 

  • Ability to work possible home matches. 

  • Ability to create and maintain a safe work environment compliant with governing state and federal authorities. 

  • Represent Sporting Kansas City and its related affiliates in a professional manner at all times.

Skills and Experience 

  • Bachelors/In school for Turf Management or related field preferred.
