Physician, Division of Transfusion Medicine & Coagulation (Assistant Professor)

Summary

The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is seeking an MD/DO or equivalent for Blood Bank in Division of Transfusion Medicine & Coagulation. The physician reports to the division chief. The successful individual will have a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. This position is open for junior, mid-career, and senior individuals. If qualified, appointment for Medical Director of Blood Bank or Medical Director of Hemostasis Lab will be considered.

 

TCH is the largest children's hospital in the nation and is ranked No. 3 in U.S. News and World Report's Honor Roll of Best Children's Hospitals. TCH has a busy maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) service with annual deliveries of approximately 7,000 and Adult Congenital Heart Unit. The position will share clinical services that include pediatric transfusion, general blood banking in adults, coagulation, ECMO/VAD anticoagulation, level 1 trauma, solid organ transplant, adult apheresis, post-partum hemorrhage, neonatal/intrauterine transfusion, and active/massive transfusion. TCH has the leading pediatric solid organ transplant center in the country. ECMO service is designated as Platinum level by ELSO, and the VAD program has the most cases and best outcomes in the country. Located in Texas Medical Center, the largest medical campus in the world, this position also offers exceptional opportunities for collaboration and research activities with other services and across numerous institutions. The busy clinical services are shared by 4.5 FTE blood bank physicians who are subspecialized in these areas.

 

Pathologists at TCH have primary full-time academic appointments in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine and are expected to contribute to educational and scholarly activities in the Department of Pathology based at TCH.

 

Candidates should be board-certified or board-eligible in blood banking/transfusion medicine through the American Board of Pathology and must be eligible for an active, unrestricted Texas Medical License. Individuals who have experience in pediatric transfusion are preferred, but not required. Individuals who have strong interests in managing ECMO/VAD anticoagulation and direct patient care are encouraged to apply.
