The Dental Hygiene Assistant will assist the Public Health Dental Hygiene team with essential operations for the oral program for all early learning, elementary, middle school and high school aged children through parental/guardian consent. Applicants should be knowledgeable of technology and software, including but not limited to Microsoft word, excel, and outlook. Applicants should be able to transport and push/pull/lift 50 lbs. The Dental Assistant position is a contracted partial-year position. Hours worked per year are 1537.5 hours (41 weeks). 45 contracted days of leave are required to be off without pay during summer months and breaks in the school year (you may utilize annual leave accrued for these dates). State holidays are observed annually (currently 11.5 days). This is a full benefit position with a 5% increase at successful completion of 6 mos.
Provider Credentials: High school diploma or GED are required. No previous registration or certification is required, but experience in the dental/medical/clerical field is beneficial to this position.
Scope of Work: This position will assist in providing preventative dental services to the populations identified by the contracting local health department. Gateway Oral Program provides preventative dental services in the school setting for grades Pre-k through 12th grade. The role of the Public Health Dental Assistant will include but not be limited to assisting the PHRDH in clinic and in the office setting. Follow up on referrals based on dental assessments. Contracted Employee will obtain and maintain up to date requirements, such as CPR/BLS. Maintaining proper protocols, professionalism, and ensuring all legal and regulatory statutes and standards are met. Data collection and entry for services provided are essential to this position. This employee will promote oral health education and anticipatory guidance when needed. Employee will attend conferences and training when required. Maintenance of medical records and assuring HIPAA compliance. Proper infection control procedures as set by the guidelines from the State, CDC, and OSHA. Assuring compliance is applicable with state law including KRS 313.040 and 201 KAR 8:562 and any other laws providing governance for the Dental Hygienist. This program is not designed to replace a regular dentist. The purpose of this program is to provide children with access to dental care and establish them with a dental home. Additional responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the Public Health Dental Hygienist, the Local Health Department, the Program Director, and the Public Health Director.

Provides outreach and follow-up services for potential clients and individuals already receiving services for maternal and child health, epidemiology and aging services. The incumbent would make visits to homes and other sites promoting services, scheduling appointments, and any necessary follow-up.

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in public health or in another position with the provision of social services, supportive services, personal care, or related duties or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
