Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$133,500 - $217,800We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biophysical Chemist to join our research team. This position lies at the interface of the Protein Biosciences and Computational Science groups at the Lilly Biotechnology Center in San Diego, where the successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for building capabilities to take full advantage of Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML)–based design of new therapeutic modalities. The primary responsibilities of this role will be to implement a variety of tools to characterize biophysical properties of potential therapeutics, and to develop new approaches for high-throughput characterization to support machine learning and AI-based molecule design efforts.
Primary Responsibilities:
Designing and implementing experiments for the biophysical characterization of protein-based therapeutics.
Translating biophysical characterization approaches into high-throughput characterization to support ML data needs and AI design strategies

Strong communication (oral and written), organizational, and leadership skills are expected.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry, biochemistry, protein chemistry, or related field OR an MS in related field and 7+ years of relevant industrial experience.
Strong core proficiency in protein biophysical chemistry, with a focus on the characterization of proteins using a variety of approaches; including tools that assess stability, conformation, and association state.
Strong publication record
Additional Skills and Preferences
Familiarity with related structural biology tools and computational assessment of proteins based on structure.
Prior experience in the characterization of antibody and antibody-like molecules
Prior experience in machine-learning applications
Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work productively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Ability to prioritize multiple activities and thrive in a setting that requires quick movement between scientific challenges and comfort with ambiguity.
An active scientific curiosity and interest for complementary disciplines within the pharmaceutical industry.
