Description:

The Personal Property Appraiser performs technical work in appraising and auditing business personal property, commercial and industrial personal property for tax purposes in the Personal Property Appraisal Division of the Assessor's Office. Duties include: Audit and inspect business personal property; Estimate value of such property, evaluating the appropriateness of information filed by taxpayers; Process declaration forms; Respond appropriately to customer inquiries and complaints; Provide information to businesses concerning the assessment process; Process appeals and abatements; Testify in hearings as needed. 

  

SCHEDULE:

Schedule for this role is four 10-hour days in-office (M-Th) with the potential for limited remote work after probationary period has been completed.

COMPENSATION:

Hiring Range: $27.00 – $32.72 USD Hourly 

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Personal Property Appraiser is responsible for:

  • Field investigating, auditing, and inspecting business personal property records and assets.  
  • Estimating the value of business personal property and evaluating the accuracy of information submitted by taxpayers.
  • Canvasses assigned geographical areas to identify and inspect new businesses and construction documenting business closures, ownership changes and relocations.
  • Responds to public inquiries and complaints.  Provides information to businesses regarding assessments, appeals, and abatement processes. 
  •  Processing annual declaration schedules, including accurate asset coding, preparation of pivot tables, accurate data entry, and overall account management. 
  •  Responding to taxpayer appeals by preparing written responses, performing data entry, and compiling supporting documents, exhibits, and reports for hearings when necessary.
  • Reviews permit information to identify taxable asset additions and documenting accounts for further review.
  • Possessing strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with experience handling taxpayer inquiries, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborating as a team member by sharing knowledge and information with colleagues and managers and assists in training team members as needed.
  • Adhering to Colorado statutes, Division of Property Taxation guidelines and department policies.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to review and interpret financial documents and asset listings.
