About the role

The Instructional Designer is responsible for collaborating with faculty members in the development of high-quality curriculum design for technology enhanced face-to-face courses, conversion of courses for online, and hybrid learning modalities including the selection of appropriate instructional, and technological strategies. They will also provide assistance in the development, delivery, and evaluation the department's university-wide training programs and support services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides learning technology resources, design educational programs, develop/deliver training for faculty, staff, and students and research, recommend and implement solutions to enhance the teaching and learning experience
  • Assists in providing a systematic method for planning, developing, evaluating, and managing the instructional process effectively to ensure competent performance.
  • Provides design and support in the conversion of targeted courses for online or multi-modal delivery.
  • Makes informed recommendations on changes and adjustments to learning experiences using performance data, quality review feedback, and instructor and student feedback as required. Provides timely formative feedback and assistance to faculty for the enhancement of hybrid and online courses.
  • Collaborates with faculty on developing instructionally appropriate rich media (video, audio, and/or interactive); Specifies instructional delivery methods to support instruction and learning activities. Assists with course development process including training and development programs.
  • Researches, evaluates and integrates new and emerging educational technologies for improving teaching and learning within online courses. Provides guidance to faculty on online teaching policies and course development standards (i.e., Quality Matters).
  • Assists the instructional development team in integrating instructional design components into the instructional delivery activities.
  • Creates online lesson materials using faculty content, other instructional content, software applications and Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas); Creates instructional objectives, and sequence content within each instructional unit to promote effective learning.
  • Collaborates with members of Academic Technology in supporting instructional strategies and evaluation instruments and conducting or assisting with faculty development. Works with department staff to identify instructional strategies and specific goals for online curriculum programs.
  • Monitors trends and changes to industry specific technology, including instructional technologies and curricular practices.
  • Leads targeted faculty groups in piloting and evaluating revised/new online courses.
  • Supports Student Accessibility Services to develop and to integrate technologies that support student needs and that comply with accessibility standards and meet and exceed compliance requirements.
  • Provides troubleshooting and other technology support for online teaching and learning products used by faculty, students, and staff.
  • Serves on assigned committees, boards, or commissions as appointed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology, or closely related fields; Master's degree or terminal degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of instructional design, or similar experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of adult learning theory and expertise in instructional design tools and methods; Advanced skills in curriculum design and course development in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), preferred
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience in OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint; Experience with video management platforms (e.g., YouTube, Kaltura, or Panapto) and video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom or Teams), Web design experience with HTML 5 concepts is preferred.
  • Uses various software applications and platforms, such as Adobe Create Cloud, video editing and media production, and other education technology solutions; Canvas administration.
  • Experience in teaching courses in higher education in multiple modes (Online, Blended, and Face-to-Face) and teaching in higher education with knowledge of teaching methods and pedagogy is preferred.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct daily business.
