What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the quality team focused on development and manufacture of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.

The CMC R&D Quality Manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Experienced aerospace quality professional will lead a team of Quality Assurance professionals to consistently deliver high quality products.

  • Lead establishment of site Management System in accordance with AS9100D standard and P&W Level 1 Procedures

  • Sets objectives for the quality team and maintains group metrics

  • Oversees quality initiatives to assist internal staff, suppliers, customers, and partners with initiatives to improve processes and methods that adequately assure quality products

  • Manages plans, guidelines, policies and processes, to ensure the achievement of quality targets

  • Manages implementation of organization projects and processes to ensure overall quality is continuously improving

  • Manages the collection and analysis of quality information from multiple sources for use in developing long term quality strategy and programs

  •  Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to their team 

  •  Adheres to policies, practices and procedures and through example and coaching influences others to do the same

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • An Engineering degree from an ABET accredited University. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of relevant experience or a Master’s or PhD degree and 5 years of relevant experience

  • 5 years in a leadership role with direct reports

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in aerospace machining, forgings, castings, or composites

  • Experience in precision, high volume component industries such as Aerospace, Medical Devices, Semiconductors or Automotive

  • Familiarity with fabrication and assembly operations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and other problem solving tools

  • Experience with Document Management Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to train the site team on critical site procedures

  • Experience supporting development of new processes and successful transition to production

  • A strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma and LEAN

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence

  • Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challenges

  • Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements

  • Experience establishing and maintaining a quality management system, ideally AS9100
