Department Summary

The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living on campus in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). Instruction is by university faculty. Students enjoy many of the activities of high school and the company of age mates who are intellectual peers.

Position Overview

The Senior Program Project Coordinator supports the academic programs of the TAMS program and helps students in their transition from the TAMS program into a pursuit of their baccalaureate degree at UNT or other institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Business, Data Science and four years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to adapt to program/project and incorporate creativity and originality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising students interested in pursuing baccalaureate degrees in STEM fields.
  • Familiarity with STEM degree programs offered at public and private universities in Texas, as well as out-of-state universities and international institutions.
  • Teaching experience in grades 912 and/or higher education.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Texas Driver's License (must be obtained within 30 days of starting the position)

Job Duties:

  • Maintain reference library for students that includes manuals on writing; guides on interviewing, the various types of college applications and their key differences, and the various types of admissions decisions offered by higher education institutions; and, guides to financial aid and scholarships.
  • Create and/or update, collect, and utilize student feedback forms, peer evaluation forms, and parent evaluation forms when advising students and writing letters of recommendation for students.
  • Complete the school counselors' portion of students college applications, and submit the counselor's recommendation/Secondary School Report, and midyear reports as required by certain universities.
  • Maintain record of schools and scholarships to which students apply and then, ultimately attend and receive.
  • Update and send TAMS school profile as well as verification
