The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) is responsible for ensuring that law students with disabilities are granted reasonable accommodations in accordance with the ADA, Section 504, and University policy. The OAS team works in partnership with Law Center faculty, staff, and students to promote environments that are accessible, sustainable, and inclusive by:
Determining and implementing reasonable accommodations to remove access barriers for students with disabilities in curricular and co-curricular environments;
Implementing approved academic adjustments (e.g. exam modifications) for pregnant/parenting students and/or students navigating temporary medical conditions;
Sharing resources with students with disabilities requesting MPRE and/or Bar Exam accommodations; and
Promoting Universal Design for Learning through collaboration with faculty and staff across the Law Center.
Engaging with students with disabilities in an interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations.
Communicating with Law Center faculty to facilitate academic accommodations.
Collaborating with campus partners to ensure an accessible curricular and cocurricular experience for students.
Work Interactions
Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director works directly with JD and LL.M. students seeking accessibility related accommodations. The Assistant Director also frequently interacts with the OAS Associate Director and Student Accessibility Coordinator to implement reasonable accommodations and with Law Center faculty to facilitate classroom accommodations. Finally, the incumbent will interact with various campus partners, including but not limited to, the Office of the Registrar, Information Systems Technology (IST), and Planning & Facilities Management to ensure that students’ access needs are met.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education administration, special education, rehabilitation counseling, human services, or other relevant discipline preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in an academic environment
Familiarity with the application of Section 504 and the ADA in the higher education setting, and ability to recognize and understand regulatory requirements associated with disability and accommodation issues
Ability to interpret to interpret, medical, psychological, neuropsychological and educational documentation
Familiarity with assistive technologies and their application to students with disabilities in higher education preferred
Excellent judgment and discretion in managing confidential information
Ability to enthusiastically support and interact with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, experiences, and personality types
Demonstrated organizational skills and careful attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to balance collaborative and independent work
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Adobe
