Engineer  II / Engineer Senior – Ground Development Engineer

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Design, develop, test, review, document and deploy Software Applications at a variety of levels/sizes including short-lived rapidly built scripts, to large-scale Enterprise Software Solutions. This role will encompass the entire lifecycle of the Software Application(s) worked on.
  • Detailed oriented Systems Engineering to understand and assist in the creation of of Ball Ground Systems and how they interact and relate to Ball Spacecraft, non-Ball Spacecraft and other Ground Systems, as well as the interdependences between these systems.
  • Support the use of Software Applications in a variety of environments with numerous Industry Best Practice technologies including Virtualization/Dockerization, Kubernetes, Cloud-Based Platforms, Authentication/Authorization and Role-Based Access Control, Networking, and Databases.
  • Particular focus on Command and Control Software Applications designed for Ball Spacecraft, with a secondary mix of other Ground System related projects such as Mission Planning, Data Archive, and Automation.
  • Cultivate a strong ethic for understand issues/problems at a user level, but applying changes and updates with the high-level broad reaching system in mind.
  • Self-start and self-guide sub-projects where you are the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on a given piece of Software or Technology.
  • Contribute to large Enterprise projects as an integrated team member with an emphasis on developing Software for the project.
  • Learn new methodologies and Software paradigms from leaders/mentors within Ball, as well as provide mentoring for new/junior employees.
  • Participate/contribute in large scale Factory Qualification Tests (FQT), Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Mission Readiness (MR) type activities which may include presentations and demos to both Engineers and Managers.
  • Attend cross organization meetings as well as learn/socialize new technologies.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You'll Need:

 

  • Engineer II - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years of related experience.
  • Engineer Senior - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
