The Corporate Finance team at United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) manages financial planning, analysis, and reporting, driving the company's financial strategy and supporting decision-making. Interns will gain hands-on experience in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis, contributing to key projects that shape UWM's financial future.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
FINANCE TRANSFORMATION
The Finance Transformation internship role entails focusing on delivering on our finance transformation strategy, which includes transformation and automation projects to enable operational efficiencies, optimize costs, minimize complexity & risk, and realize value within Finance and other functions.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Learn about the Finance Transformation strategy, including its governance model.
- Collaborate with business process owners to document current processes using process and data flows.
- Assist in defining and designing the future state and documenting the new processes.
- Develop and implement new solutions using an agreed automation tool (i.e., Alteryx).
- Create test cases for Quality Assurance (QA) testing of new solutions.
- Execute and document functional and QA testing.
- Assist with the validation of new solutions with business process owners.
- Assist with training and raising awareness about new solutions for business process owners.
- Maintain regular and proactive communication with the team regarding status and challenges.
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or related disciplines.
- Strong analytical, communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn new technical languages (coding) and related skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, and deliver quality work.
- Ability to think critically through issues as they arise and propose possible solutions.
FINANCIAL REPORTING
The Financial Reporting team at UWM is responsible for preparing accurate financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Assist with Quarter-end Financials, Earnings Release and 10Q filing
- Assist with month-end entries – leases, stock compensation etc.
- Assist with preparation of the GAAP and SEC checklists
- Assist with Ad Hoc projects and tasks
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Intermediate Skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Accounting or Finance Degree
VALUATION AND FP&A
The Finance ‘Valuation and FP&A’ internship role involves assisting with daily, monthly, and quarterly analysis of MSR capitalization grids and fair valuation model assumptions using in-house tools. This role also involves overseeing valuations of closed loans and rate locks and supporting new product activities to ensure financial compliance and accurate reporting. Additionally, in the FP&A capacity, the role supports monthly reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and other relevant financial analyses.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Valuation:
- Learn and support daily, monthly, and quarterly MSR capitalization and fair valuation model analysis.
- Monitor daily MSR capitalized values and analyze lock volume and par sensitivity using the MSR capitalization grid.
- Compare UWM's risk profile against industry values.
- Manage month-end valuation assumptions, track key data points, evaluate assumptions, and stress test before recommending changes.
- Assist with research and analysis of industry MSR valuation data.
- Monitor MSR capitalized value at the point of sale to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain a tracker for month-over-month changes in FV management assumptions.
- Collaborate with UWM business partners.
- Support ad-hoc business needs, historical trend analysis, and create forward-looking analyses using internal tools.
