Senior Engineer, Aeroderivative Performance Methods & Tools
GE VernovaAbout the role
Job Description Summary
The Aeroderivative Performance & Operability Engineering team is a critical pillar within the Aeroderivative Engineering organization, operating at the intersection of engineering, commercial, and digital domains. The team covers project execution and model development for aspects related to performance (thermodynamic cycle models) and operability (including emissions, fuel flexibility, and controls). The role requires an engineer who thrives at the intersection of coding and thermodynamics. Your primary focus will be architecting and evolving our NPSS (Numerical Propulsion System Simulation) ecosystem; building the infrastructure that transforms data into refined models, with seamlessly integration across our applications and platforms (including FMI/FMU exports to Simulink). You'll join a collaborative team that is fundamentally improving how we develop and deploy models throughout the lifecycle.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Own the Architecture: Design and implement the calculation routines, custom NPSS elements, and data pipelines that form the backbone of our modeling ecosystem. You'll decide how data flows from field measurements through reduction methods to refined component maps and physics models.
- Modernize Our Toolchain: Lead efforts to refactor legacy code and introduce modern software practices. Your improvements will make our models faster, more accurate, and more maintainable—directly impacting our ability to match field performance.
- Enable Automation: Build the APIs, scripts, and workflows that let performance engineers focus on insights rather than manual processes. Connect NPSS with Python and emerging AIML capabilities to unlock new analysis methods.
- Develop the Team: Lead and mentor 1-2 engineers while building a collaborative community of practice. You'll work closely with performance engineers across ITR projects and cycle matching efforts, helping everyone level up their technical capabilities.
- Establish Best Practices: Bring software engineering discipline to our models through version control (GitHub), regression testing, continuous integration, and clear documentation. Make code quality a shared responsibility.
- Bridge Domains: Translate between the language of thermodynamics and the requirements of software architecture. Work directly with performance engineers to understand their challenges and build solutions that fit how they actually work.
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Performance Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
Eligibility Requirements
Relocation to work in a hybrid model in Greenville, SC.
Desired Characteristics
- A passion for creating high-quality, reliable, and elegant engineering tools
- Strong programming skills, applied to engineering tools
- Hands-on experience with NPSS or comparable turbine/propulsion modeling platforms
- Domain expertise in aeroderivative gas turbine or jet engine performance.
- Python proficiency, particularly for automation, data processing, and API development
- Track record of implementing software best practices in technical environments
- Experience with model integration across multiple platforms (FMI/FMU, Simulink, etc.)
- Master's Degree or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
