Program

SBCS’ mental health School Based Screening to Care program – also known as Second Step– is a free program for children and parents designed to strengthen a student’s social-emotional skills and provide a strong foundation for their academic success. Classroom and small groups are offered in addition to monthly activities for the whole family.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Program Director and Department Director, the Screening to Care Specialist I is responsible for providing evidence-based social-emotional mental health prevention and early intervention services to children (K through 8th grade) and their families. This includes presenting the curriculum to whole classrooms (and smaller groups), as well as potentially to large groups of parents and/or school staff. This position may include travel between school sites throughout the week. Other responsibilities include working closely on a day-to-day basis with teachers, administrators, nurses, counselors, and parents to create a school environment which results in improved behavior and academic achievement for all children. Services will be in keeping with the agency goals, objectives, mission, and style provided within a team framework.

Duties:

• Process program referrals from designated school site. 
• Facilitate behavioral health mySAEBRS pre-screenings of students from designated school site and understand screening tool analytics to determine student’s risk level. 
• Conduct assessments and outcomes measures with students and their families, as indicated by screenings.
• Provide Second Step curriculum to students in kindergarten through 8th grade - in classroom and small groups.
• Assist the Promotora in providing program and community activities and/or presentations for families. 
• Provide referrals, linkages, crisis intervention, case managemen
