About the role
Responsibilities
- The Economic Policy Technical Assistant supports the work of S/GWI’s Women’s Economic Security (WES) team in developing policy and programming initiatives that advance the status of women and girls globally, with a focus on the integration of gender priorities within the Department of State’s economic policies and diplomatic outreach. The incumbent analyzes political, economic, and other reporting from a wide variety of sources that include U.S. missions, non-governmental organizations, and foreign electronic and print media within the assigned regions to understand the current situation and its implications for U.S. interests. This includes monitoring developing situations as they relate to women’s economic security in targeted regions and conferring with analysts, action officers, and interested organizations to develop information necessary for decision-making by S/GWI senior staff.
- The incumbent supports WES officers by reporting on significant economic policies and developments affecting U.S. foreign policy in the various regions involving women’s and girls’ issues. The incumbent analyzes political, economic, and other reporting from a wide variety of sources to understand the current situation and its implications for U.S. interests. The incumbent makes recommendations to the WES Division Chief and S/GWI leadership on effective U.S. policy and programming approaches with respect to women’s economic empowerment. These offerings take the form of written and oral presentations to foreign policy decision makers and decision-making entities, including position papers, briefings, official discussions in meetings and conferences, memoranda, talking points, press guidance, public statements for decision/action of senior officials, and written Congressional testimony and assembly of associated background material used by higher-level managers.
- The incumbent supports the implementation of Department strategies related to women’s economic empowerment as well as country or region-specific strategies to advance the status of women and girls globally in cooperation with a full range of stakeholders, including State Department, Treasury, USAID, other government agencies, and NGOs. The incumbent prepares a variety of documents such as analytical reports, briefing materials, decision memoranda, correspondence and other documents related to the economic empowerment of women.
- The incumbent contributes input to the WES team related to women’s economic empowerment at multilateral organizations and dialogues. This includes the preparation of background paper, remarks, and bilateral interventions; conducting analysis and identifying gaps in women’s economic security policy advancement in multilateral forums; and developing lessons learned from multilateral engagements to inform S/GWI and Department efforts to advance women’s economic empowerment.
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in political science, foreign affairs, economics, law, or a similar field
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance. Candidates with an active DoD Secret clearance strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills
- Ability to work independently to assess priorities and manage daily coordination of details with minimal supervision
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in international politics/foreign policy, research & evaluation, social science, or other related fields
- Experience working with academia, public, private, or civil society sectors on women’s and girls’ empowerment, particularly with a focus on economic issues
- Experience with leadership in policy analysis, development, and coordination on economic policy, human rights, and/or gender
- Strong skills in communication, policy formulation, and multistakeholder coordination
- Ability to prepare draft briefing papers, talking points, and/or speeches, as needed
- Fluent English language (written and spoken) communication skills
- Ability to solve problems and encourage consistent, solid performance
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate activities in multiple locations, act decisively in daily work, and work well in a multi-cultural team environment
Pay Range
USD $70,000.00 - USD $70,000.00 /Yr.EEO
