Director, DevX and Infrastructure Engineering

Dave is looking for an Engineering leader to lead Developer Experience and Infrastructure Engineering functions. DevX group drives the next evolution of our Developer Platform with best-in-class experiences that simplify and accelerate workflows that empower and delight software engineers. Infrastructure teams own everything related to cloud computing, core databases, caching and storage systems, core services, service framework, reliability, efficiency, and infrastructure security.

Leadership Responsibilities

• This role is a people management role responsible for completion of technical objectives and a key partner to other Engineering leaders.
• Continuous improvement of the tools, systems, and services that support team and volunteer software development practices.
• Coaching, developing, and empowering engineering managers and highly senior individual contributors to enable their success in solving problems, delivering on team objectives, and coaching and developing their team members.
• Planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expense priorities within the cost center for Developer Experience and Infrastructure.
• Work closely with TPM and Engineering leadership to help evolve DevX Engineering’s customer engagement model, communication strategy, and prioritization and planning/roadmapping practices.

Infrastructure Responsibilities

• Facilitate our DevOps process, including shared services deployment, observability, automation, and overall infrastructure orchestration
• Own all aspects of our cloud infrastructure and platform, including roadmap and architecture for the core infrastructure teams; CloudOps SRE, Database Engineering.
• Set the Infrastructure Org's long-term technical direction and strategy and heavily contribute to the broader Engineering organization process and top-level company initiatives
• Co-own OpEx planning and execution with the VP of Technology, heavily focused on building financial models in partnership with FP&A
• Experience building and maintaining a 3-tier infrastructure support model, including development, site reliability, and front-line incident management functions in a chain of continuous improvement

DevX Responsibilities

• Provide a world-class development experience for Frontend developers by supporting the software development lifecycle for libraries, packages, and Services.
• Keep developers in the flow during api development by optimizing the inner development loop for our Backend ecosystem. Provide a paved road for Python development as it is one of the primary languages in use for Data teams and is fundamental to many critical business scenarios.
• Using data-driven decision making, develop and execute a holistic strategy and roadmap for Developer
• Experience in collaboration with other engineering teams, Design, and the volunteer technical contributor community.
• Define how we measure the success and effectiveness of our services and drive the execution and continuous evaluation of those metrics.

What You'll Need

• BS or MS from a computer science or similar program. Other majors will be considered in conjunction with appropriate related experience and/or training.
• 10+ years of software development and/or infrastructure engineering experience.
• 7+ years of architecting, building and supporting infrastructure in a production cloud native environment.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience hiring and building diverse and inclusive high performing empowered teams.
• Led relationships with Managed Service Providers and product vendors as required to support key technologies and service delivery.
• Ability to collaborate well and come up with technical vision for larger projects in a dynamic environment with competing and changing priorities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent writing and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience building libraries, tools, services for other Software Engineers instead of end users
• Experience with one or more of: TypeScript; JavaScript; Golang, NodeJS tolling; GraphQL and API Gateway; MySQL; Redis; RabbitMQ; ArgoCD; Helm; Terraform.
