Role Overview

The Design Assistant will be responsible for working closely with the Design team to ensure a successful design process. The ideal candidate would be someone with experience working with or specializing in ready to wear experience.


Responsibilities

  • Update sketches, line sheets, catalogs and concept boards in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide support on the initial development
  • Research fabric, color, and design concepts
  • Initiate sample requests and maintain communication with vendors throughout the entire development process
  • Follow-up on proto requests
  • Participate in Design meetings and provide input on things such as fabrication, style, silhouettes, functional features, fit, cost, and final execution
  • Attend proto fit sessions and collaborate with the Design team to review samples
  • Support and collaborate with the Design team to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Manage and attend all vendor appointments
  • General coordination and assistance for the Design team – organizing submissions, photocopying, assembling boards, updating sketches and documents as needed
  • Assist in the tracking and approval of fabric samples, lab dips, strike-offs, and other development materials 
  • Communicate regularly with Sales team to gather input and share line development direction 
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design or related field
  • Strong internship experience required; 1 year of relevant corporate experience preferred
  • Experience using Mac, Excel, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator (PLM & Web PDM experience is a plus but not required)
  • Experience flat sketching by hand and in Illustrator
  • Excellent organizational, communicative, and time management skills
  • Strong understanding of fashion trends and women’s ready to wear
  • Knowledge of fabric and trims as well as strong relationships with resources
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, on site, environment
  • Eager can-do attitude and team player
  • This a hybrid role, with a minimum of 4 days in our NJ office
