Pay Range: $31.62 - $40.10 per hour (AFSCME-87 Pay Plan, C41 Step 1-13)
Hiring Range: $31.62 - $33.56 per hour (AFSCME-87 Pay Plan, C41 Step 1-4 DOQ)

There is an Accountant I opening with the Yakima County Treasurer's Office. This position performs professional level accounting activities affecting the revenue and debt management of County departments and other agencies or districts including research, evaluation and development of systems; analyzes revenues and expenditures as well as cash and investment management; and acts as a lead and support to technical staff for financial operations of the Treasurer’s Office programs.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Prepares daily investment activity detail for County investment decisions by Treasurer & Investment Manager; audits district or agency request for department policy compliance and accuracy; verifies the availability of funds for investment requests or the Fund Balances for investment withdrawals; monitors investment coupon payments and maturities, ensuring accurate and timely receipt of funds; compiles all supporting documentation and completes investment transactions. Daily & monthly reconciles the total county investment portfolio balance with financial system reports, banking reports, and checkbook register.  Monthly calculates and verifies the accuracy of system allocations of investment earnings.

Analyzes the County General Fund beginning with the approved budget; using analytical research methods, financial system reports, resolutions and other relevant information, allocates revenue and expenditures into a monthly cash flow projection.  Monitors and reviews monthly activity, adjusting projections to reflect current transactions and ensuring an accurate year-end balance is maintained. Researches any discrepancies and makes recommendations to the Treasurer to ensure sound financial information is available for county decision-making.

Reconciles the County-wide monthly cash balance using Financial Management System reports, Ascend reports, and checkbook register.  Audits the checkbook detail to ensure that all activity is present in both systems, also ensuring that any activity in the Financial Management and Ascend systems are included in the checkbook register. Verifies and balances general deposits from banking activity reports, and ensures deposits are cashiered correctly.
