The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and highly strategical individual to take up the role of Foundations and Philanthropy Advisor for the US. The placeholder will find, recruit and manage sources of funding from US foundations and philanthropists. They will do this in a way that aligns with NRC USA and NRC priorities, follows NRC and NRC USA rules/policies, complies with US law and gives a significant return on investment for NRC. They are also expected to contribute to wider leadership across NRC and NRC USA to help others develop their thinking and execution around private sector partnership. The role will work with the NRC USA Executive Director and NRC’s Private Sector Partnership section to develop, monitor, and implement NRC’s corporate and private foundation relationships, policies and strategies in the US.
What you will do
- Develop and maintain a diverse portfolio of unique global fundraising partnerships with different types of private organizations, foundations and philanthropies.
- Work across NRC and NRC USA to understand global, regional and country strategies and identify ways private partnerships can contribute resources to help deliver on these. From this foundation, generate new and innovative opportunities, identify suitable potential matching partners, and develop a roadmap to engage them and secure funding, recognizing when to proceed to ensure funds and when to first define red lines to meet NRC’s needs.
- Engage with C-suite leaders one-to-one to explain NRC programs, get them to see value in partnering with NRC and NRC USA, and finally secure a funding commitment from them.
- Work with other teams and leaders in the head office, field offices and representation offices to mentor their abilities to successfully engage with private partnerships and contribute to the wider goals of the Private Sector Partnership section.
- Deliver on a fundraising target for the role.
- Work to promote NRC and NRC USA partnerships (e.g. share case studies, speak at events, arrange partner meetings with the NRC Secretary General or other colleagues across the organization).

What you will bring
- Documented highly professional experience within business development/sales, corporate partnerships and/or social impact or other relevant professional qualification, ideally in the US.
- Documented extensive professional knowledge of corporates, foundations, or individual philanthropists located in the US.
- Capacity for flexible thinking and innovation to find win-win solutions between NRC and US-based foundations and philanthropists.
- Demonstrated experience in creating new partnerships – including identifying partnership opportunities, designing projects, brokering, and cultivating relationships, negotiating and designing and formalizing partnership structures.
- Documented experience and ability to engage at C-suite roles/senior levels in business contexts, and to build trust-based relationships with senior-level executives and high net worth philanthropists.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

- At-will national contract
- Travel: moderate
- Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s salary scale ($99,000 - $103,000), with accompanying terms and conditions for national contracts
