About the job:

Location:Ideal location is Lake Charles, LA. There is potential for remote work, but the primary emphasis is to have an office presence in the City of Lake Charles.

Position can be based in Baton Rouge with travel to Lake Charles as needed.  Summary/Objective:To provide quality planning, design and technical assistance to management and other members of design team in delivering projects within budgetary and time constraints.  The Sr Transportation/Roadway Engineer will be working specifically on our projects with the City of Lake Charles. The blend of experience required to fulfill this position includes roadway design, project management, and business development. We are seeking a skilled designer/engineer with a track record of success in urban roadway design, project and team management, and serving as a client liaison as it relates to business development.  Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 
  1. Performs engineering analysis and design (2D and 3D) for roadways, intersections, and related infrastructure, including new construction and rehabilitation. 
  2. Understands and applies principles of roadway engineering in accordance with LaDOTD and local municipality design guidelines.
  3. Understands and applies principles of traffic signalization to design of roadway and intersection improvements. 
  4. Performs analysis and design of stormwater management facilities for roadway drainage. 
  5. Prepares construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for contracting and bidding of construction projects. 
  6. Performs construction phase engineering, including periodic on-site reviews, in collaboration with Construction Services team. 
  7. Maintains and documents written and verbal communications with clients throughout the development and completion of a project.
  8. Conducts project status review with project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work completed, and monitors timeliness of project completion. 
  9. Prepares engineering studies and reports. 
  10. Provides technical guidance and training to members of the project team. 
  11. Prepares project design using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools. 
  12. Assists Project Manager in assuring quality control procedures are performed. 
  13. Maintains responsibility for adherence to applicable codes.
Supervisory Responsibility:This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Candidates will collaborate with engineering and CADD staff for plan production and report directly to the Area Manager. Work Environment:This job generally operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:This is a full-time position. May require long hours and some weekend work to meet project delivery schedules.  Travel:Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some projects may require more out-of-the-area and overnight travel.  

About you:

Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. 
  • Required Licensures and Certifications 
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Louisiana. 
  • Certifications applicable to civil engineering, transportation and roadway design and inspection desired. 
Required Experience:
  • A minimum of five to six years of roadway and related design experience is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of engineering and the implementation of public works infrastructure projects. 
  • Design experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Bentley (Geopak and Inroads), and other DOT approved software is a plus
