To meet students where they are, we will host internships in both a virtual and in-person format. Opportunities listed will either be in-person based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs. Job Description

Spring 2024 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: October 6th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  
  • Program Dates: January 16 – April 19, 2024 
  • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Enterprise Engineering, TV & Streaming Platforms: Our engineering team manages the software delivery and operations of all Programming, Scheduling and Finance applications (Compass and Profin are the two notable ones). The team manages the custom applications developed on Open-source tech stack, Java Microservices, Angular, PostgreSQL in a fully cloud-native environment (AWS, Azure). We operate on a Program Increment (PI) model with six squads focused on developing new capabilities in the areas of International VOD (SkyShowtime, Project Earth), Domestic VOD (Peacock), Domestic Linear Scheduling (TV Networks, virtual linear channels), and Program Finance (Cost management, amortization and closing books) for all the NBCU TV & Streaming platforms.  

 

  • Roku Core Video Player: The Roku Core Video Player department is responsible for creating players for applications like Peacock, Sky Showtime, NowTV, OneApp, NBC News, and more. Being the most critical part of the app, the video player must be reliable, resilient, and robust. That is why our team is comprised of the best Roku developers in the industry. As a part of our team, interns will get the advantage of working side-by-side with these software developers and learning from the best. Not only they will learn the best practices of coding, debugging, and testing, but they will also get exposure to the continuous integration, deployment, ticketing, scheduling, and releasing practices as well. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program. 
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal. 
  • Must be working from a location within a U.S. state during all hours worked. 

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 
  • Good foundational knowledge in software development methodologies, modern JavaScript and Java, Python or Go and backend (PostgreSQL or mySQL or SQL Server or any Open source relational/document databases).  
  • Willingness to learn new technologies quickly with the help of online learning tools like LinkedIn learning and Pluralsight. 
  • Moderate amount of knowledge of Scripting languages. 
  • Some exposure to BrightScript. 
  • Some exposure to Roku devices.  

 

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00
