BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M QS SUBSTATION & METER SUBSTATION Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Maintains, repairs, and installs various equipment and apparatus used in the distribution of electrical energy and performs general maintenance work covered by various mechanical trades.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Fundamental Responsibilities:

As an Electrical Mechanic at the maximum level, performs the following duties. As an Electrical Mechanic at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training:

  • Works from drawings, sketches and diagrams, and oral instructions. Checks, services and repairs transformers and other electrical equipment and apparatus used for the distribution of electrical energy; uses test equipment and tools of the trade.
  • Connects and operates oil filters; receives and disburses oil.
  • Repairs electrical motors on portable hand tools and similar equipment.
  • Operates fingerlift and overhead crane.
  • Overhauls and repairs tools, pumps, engines and equipment; tests rubber equipment.
  • Does sheet metal work as required on truck bodies, cabinets, meter cans, etc. Does structural work in repairs to buildings, grease racks, fences, etc.
  • Does general gas and electric welding as required on structural steel, steel alloys, cast iron, copper and aluminum alloys, etc.
  • Operates metal working, woodworking, welding and other equipment; uses hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license and State of Hawaii Commercial driver’s license (Class B). Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
  • Must be able to obtain a Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • T9: Company Written Job Knowledge Test {Journeyman, 1st Year}.
  • T9, T10: Graduate of Electrical Mechanic Apprentice program or equivalent training and experience.

 

Role: Non-Exempt

Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
