THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Associate is responsible for capturing, assessing, and communicating statistical data pertinent to the success of the View Boston Observatory operation. The Accounting Associate will be the subject matter expert for all financial, operational, and risk management metrics through data reporting, assessment, and analytics. These functions include, but are not limited to, establishing, and maintaining accounting principles (GAAP), practices, policies, and procedures. Preparing and evaluating daily, weekly, and monthly financial operating reports and present findings and recommendations to the Director. The Accounting Associate is responsible for the daily reconciliation of revenue for View Boston Observatory, including ticketing, food & beverage, and merchandise sales, restaurant buyouts, group events, and catering events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work directly with the Director of Finance to prepare operations analysis and reports.
- Manage AP & AR processes maintaining accuracy throughout the processes with attention to detail.
- Participate in month-end activities including the preparation/review of journal entries and variance analysis.
- Prepare and review monthly reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts and ensure that general ledger accounts are reconciled with resolution to reconciling items.
- Manage the day-to-day tasks of reconciliation including daily cash room reconciliation.
- Produce and distribute Daily Flash Sales for View Boston Operations.
- Manage the processes which ensure accurate and timely financial statements and month end close.
- Oversee the inventory process and perform in-depth cost of goods analysis.
- Manage the weekly disbursement of payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
- Analyze monthly balance sheet and P&L figures to prepare comments and expose performance trends.
- Develop and coordinate automated accounting applications and processes.
- Provide audit support for all financial activity.
- Assist Director of Finance in budgeting process, including analyze budget to actual and analyze and report on variances.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Finance as needed.
