Role Description:
•Strategically develop, mentor and guide members of the company’s Tax Department
•Lead all Tax Department responsibilities, including oversight of all tax related functions
•Create and maintain impeccable compliance structure and policies
•Collaborate effectively with internal and external advisors and business units to devise, review and implement transaction related tax structures and monitor existing tax structures and risks
•Oversee all tax reporting and compliance functions for all business units and investment interests
•Oversee financial statement reporting of income taxes and effective tax rate management
•Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal and state income tax returns, estimates and extensions as well as all related compliance
•Provide tax guidance, advice and risk management support to the company, its business units and family owners
•Consult on special projects initiated by senior leadership
•Maintain up to date knowledge of U.S. and state tax legislative developments and related implications
•Serve as the primary contact with IRS agents and state auditors
•Initiate federal and state tax planning and provide technical assistance as required
•Extensive knowledge of both Federal and State income tax laws
•Extensive general business knowledge and accounting fundamentals across multiple industries; retail, real estate and GCC experience preferred.
•Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment
•Build and scale a best-in-class tax function to support the company's growth by hiring strong talent and implementing scalable processes.
•Collaborate with executive management to develop a vision for a tax efficient global corporate structure that is flexible and meets our business needs.
•Manage quarterly tax provision process for all entities in every jurisdiction where Saks Global operates.
•Act as advisor for the company on new product launches and customer agreements to ensure tax risks are mitigated and information reporting and withholding requirements are met.
•Be a partner to cross-functional teams to advise on employment tax and permanent establishment analysis for our workforce.
•Project manage and execute the calendar of filing deliverables to ensure compliance and timely filings for US federal, state and all foreign income taxes.
•Manage any tax audits that arise for state, federal and international returns.
•Manage relationships with external tax advisors, external audit tax function and investors.
•Present on tax matters at Audit and Risk Committee and board meetings as required.
•Prepare all tax provision disclosures for financial reporting purposes
Key Qualifications:
•15+ years of US tax experience, with both public accounting firm and private industry experience.
•Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Tax or Accounting; CPA preferred.
•Experience leading a tax team and scaling a tax function.
•Experience with managing a global tax compliance and provision process.
•Proven ability to autonomously research, interpret and document tax requirements and implications for the company.
•Knowledge of implementing transfer pricing frameworks and methodologies.
•Excellent command of tax financial reporting requirements
•Strong written and oral communicator, comfortable presenting to executives, audit and risk committee and Board of Directors.
