About the role

Job Title: Ordnance School Technical Instructors (Career Management Field (CMF) 89 (89D, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)/89E, Phase 1)

Essential Job Functions:  

Instructor/writer providing training including classroom and laboratory conference, discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises including computer-assisted instruction according to lesson plans. Responsible for simulation/virtual training and/or field exercise training. Duties include testing, planning, completing additional training, providing remedial assistance, and other course administrative matters. Is expected to follow and understand the Program of Instruction, adhering to task, conditions, and standards and instructing in accordance with approved Program of Instruction. When not instructing, expected to be cross-training, arranging and engaging in instructional preparation and testing, and serving as an Assistant instructor on modules not currently certified to teach.

Will conform to safety and security standards and report discrepancies in cleanliness, safety, or security to the Government. 

As subject matter experts participate in revisions and making pen and ink changes to Programs of Instruction, lesson plans, and training support materials to ensure training is doctrinally updated and accurate, reflecting current training strategies. 

Equipment maintenance: 

Expected to maintain equipment, enter faults, perform PMCS, prepare classrooms and training environments, and conduct and record academic counseling. 

Expected to check test instruments and mock-ups when equipment is used for training. 

Required Education and Experience:

Must be a graduate of the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) Phase 2. 

Must possess at least two years as an EOD Team Leader and be an EOD Senior Badge Holder. 

Other Qualification Requirements:

Have completed the Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course (CFDIC), or its equivalent within the last five (5) years, and the TRADOC Initial Military Training (IMT) Installation Staff and Contractors Course (ISCC). Must complete refresher training if outside the five years. 

Possess knowledge of applicable regulations and doctrine regarding the MOS-specific training. 

Must be able to pass all hands-on and written student tests in accordance with the Ordnance School Instructional Management SOP. Individual qualification requirements include demonstration of familiarization with lab, equipment, and safety procedures; personalization of instructor guides, completion of knowledge and performance tests and auditing specific lesson topics. 

Be proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: 

Must be detail oriented and have excellent organization, planning, coordination, and time management skills.

Possess effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills. 

Experience developing and updating lesson plans and training materials.

Possess outstanding communicative skills both verbal and nonverbal.

Be able to work with minimal guidance.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:  Must possess a Secret Security Clearance. 

Work Environment: Must be able to work outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Must be able to perform moderate lifting (not to exceed 50 pounds), may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities, standing for long periods of time, sitting or walking up to 8 hours per day indoors, and enduring inclement weather conditions. 

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

Travel:  Minimal travel for corporate support may occur for this position.
