Executive Underwriter, Management Liability

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Underwriter to join our Management Liability team based in the Chicago, IL office.  Underwriters are responsible for underwriting a complex book of business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, gross written premium, and expense goals, management and growth of the overall portfolio of business, implementing proper underwriting discipline/guidelines, marketing and servicing of existing and potential clients.  This position would report directly into SVP, Central UW Lead for Management Liability.  

 RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and annual rating rules

  • Qualify accounts to meet the organization's risk appetite through comprehensive exposure analysis of both public and private companies

  • Collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals through round-table discussions and other business-related needs

  • Manage, mentor and train younger staff 

  • Proactively solicit renewal and new account opportunities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers in support of business retention and acquisition and work with customers and brokers to determine their insurance related needs

  • Support the sales culture by being a point of contact for brokers and customers 

  • Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities within the region

  • Follow proper file documentation as well as treaty and facultative reinsurance protocols, as required

  • Prepare and participate in team pipeline meetings by providing specific reports as needed by senior staff

     

 

CANDIDATE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 3 years underwriting experience preferred; experience in Private, Non-Profit Management Liability strongly preferred (including D&O, EPLI, FID, and Crime)

  • 4-year College Degree Required

  • Strong Writing and Communication Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi-task

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Willingness to travel

  • Must be able to think originally, be willing to challenge ideas and be receptive to having their own ideas challenged

  • Existing relationships with financial lines brokers

  • Ability to be onsite in office 4 days week
