As the Executive Director, US Development Project Management, you will build and lead the Project Management (PM) department, including technical due diligence support at the Sandoz U.S. office in Princeton, NJ.  Develop and retain top PM talent and technical CMC support.  Ensure collaboration among group and across other teams in the Sandoz Small Molecules Development Platforms.  You will oversee the Project & Program Management leadership and be accountable for the projects (evaluation, planning, executing and reporting. 

Your additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a point of initial escalation for the local team(s) for individual project risks and issues.  Facilitate formal governance communications and escalation.
  • Ensure health of DD outcome as well as active BD projects within the US small molecules pipeline during the project execution phase.  Anticipate and respond to trends in project execution that impact pipeline health. Monitor overall cost and timeline of projects as an indicator of health.
  • Collaborate with pipeline stakeholders and business partners to increase probability of success (PoS).  Maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.  Cross-functional stakeholders include Business Development and Licensing (BD&L), Product Development (PD) / Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T), Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Medical Affairs, Intellectual Property.  Stakeholders are located globally and locally. 
  • Support the overall business strategy by focusing on Sandoz’s growth culture and an emerging U.S. pipeline (aligned w/ biosimilars pipeline): Contribute to evaluation of new project selections.  Identify likelihood that projects fit the organization’s strategies and capabilities, with projects being sourced from both, internal and external development groups. 
  • Take ownership in pioneering the digitalizing of development with the main focus on enhancing the core with Data Management platforms by implementing and rolling out Sandoz’s new single data source (system) for Program & Project Management (incl. execution of due diligence, project planning, project budgeting as well as project risk management).
  • Participate in global leadership team (Small Molecules Development Platforms).  Collaborate across multi-site Development network for internal and external project execution by direct interaction with other project leaders.

Minimum Requirements:
 

Education:

  • Minimum of a master's degree is required. A PhD in natural sciences (pharmacy, chemistry or similar) or MSc / MBA with substantial project management experience in pharmaceutical industry highly preferred
  • Project management trainings; project management certification, e.g. PMP® advantageous

Work Experience:

  • Prior leadership experience with leading a team of direct reports.
  • Experience with setting up high-performing teams and efficient processes; previous track record of success in working with and leading large scale and complex international and multidisciplinary drug development teams
  • Excellent knowledge of (US generic) pharmaceutical environment with good understanding of R&D.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and lead teams of direct reports.
  • Leadership and Executive presence with the ability to present and interact with Sr. Management/Leadership teams
  • Advanced knowledge in international customs/business practice
  • Excellent proven planning, monitoring and reporting skills, ability to use proper tools and templates in project and program management, with the ability to set the right priorities
  • Excellent leadership skills, curious and good motivator.
