Executive Director, CHEN Program Job Description

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Congregational Health & Education Network (CHEN). The mission of CHEN is to reduce the health disparities among Nashville’s African American community by elevating education attainment and health literacy through faith-based partnership. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Chief, Population Health and Research and the CHEN Board of Directors.

 Education: Master's Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Admin, Divinity or related Required

 Experience: 5 years of senior non-profit management Required

Additional Experience: 

  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and strategic direction to CHEN in alignment with the mission of Nashville General Hospital. 
  • Oversee and collaborate with  CHEN staff. 
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results. 
  • Active fundraising experience with demonstrated donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community. 
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers. 
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation. 
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting. 
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated strong public speaking ability. 

Job Duties: 

  • Responsible for leading CHEN in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Chief, Population Health and Research and the CHEN Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Develop a structure for board management, board member selection, and annual budget.
  • Ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements related to non-profit operations
  •  Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support CHEN’s mission. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of CHEN, to include submission to the Chief, Population Health and Research and the CHEN Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for strategic planning development and implementation to ensure that CHEN can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of CHEN’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
  • Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
  •  Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff. Responsible effective administration of CHEN operations.
  • Responsible for signing all research agreements, and other subaward documents entered into and on behalf of the organization.
