About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Supervisor in our Communications Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will lead and manage a team of three technicians responsible for installing and decommissioning police communication and electronic equipment in VSP and 21 other Commonwealth Agency vehicles that includes diagnosing, repairing, and servicing motor vehicles, performing quality control inspections, and updating asset information in the Asset Inventory Management System (AIMS); ensures installations are completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with established quotas and quality standards; oversees staff training and development to ensure continuity of operations; conducts research and prepares reports to support operational improvements and meet Agency needs; and have the adaptability to changing work conditions and assignments as deemed necessary by supervision and departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications

•Ability to apply knowledge and skills of automotive repair techniques including mechanical and body repair.
•Knowledge of automotive systems, equipment installation, electronic and police equipment.
•Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and automotive diagnostic testing equipment.
•Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair equipment problems, read and interpret repair manuals.
•Knowledge of state procurement procedures, state inspection rules and regulations, and surplus property policies are required.
•Knowledge of safety principles related to law enforcement shop operations.
•Demonstrated ability to conduct research for law enforcement specific enhancements and/or modifications necessary to meet the operational needs of customers. Knowledgeable of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or equivalent applications) to create documents and basic reports; and to utilize asset management system to track program related assets and equipment.
•Demonstrated ability to prioritize fluctuating workload and maintain a variety of records; and to prioritize and schedule workload of direct reports.
•Knowledgeable of supervisory experience needed to train, evaluate the performance of subordinates, multitask, and to work with multiple, diverse agencies.
•Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work within a para-military organization, vendors, and other Commonwealth Agencies.
•Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
•Considerable experience in automotive/mechanical and/or electronic equipment systems and repair is required.
•Knowledge of supervisory principles required.
•Ability to work during Agency or Governor declared emergency event required.
•Virginia Operator's License required.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

•Forklift experience preferred.
•Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
