Overview
Element has an opportunity for an Environmental Technician whose responsibility is to assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of air quality data from industrial facilities. This role involves conducting emissions testing on stacks to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards. The technician works in various field conditions and must adhere to strict safety protocols while operating monitoring equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in performing air emissions stack testing in accordance with regulatory and industry standards (e.g., EPA Methods, ASTM, ISO).
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain air monitoring and sampling equipment.
- Collect and document air emissions data from industrial stacks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when working at elevated heights or in hazardous conditions.
- Assisting with maintaining detailed logs and records of testing procedures, sample collection, and equipment maintenance.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to sampling equipment or data collection.
- Assistance with maintenance of Health and Safety and Quality standards within a UKAS accredited 17025 quality management systems
- Travel frequently to client sites, sometimes in remote locations, and work in challenging outdoor environments.
Skills / Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: 0-2 years of experience in air emissions testing, environmental monitoring, or a related field (entry-level candidates with strong technical aptitude will be considered).
- Technical Skills:
- Ability to operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot emissions monitoring equipment.
- Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance standards (e.g., EPA, OSHA, NIOSH).
- Basic proficiency in data collection and reporting software.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 lbs regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance. Stamina to perform physically intensive tasks for extended periods.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching in various environmental conditions.
- Ability to safely climb ladders, work at heights, and maintain balance while handling equipment.
- Must use proper lifting techniques and follow OSHA guidelines for material handling to prevent strain or injury.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in environments with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and temperature extremes.

- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when necessary.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and apply them in practical field settings.
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project requirements.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based work, often in industrial and outdoor environments.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, heights, and potentially hazardous materials.
- Requires adherence to strict safety and environmental regulations.
This role is ideal for individuals with a strong work ethic, a passion for environmental compliance, and the ability to thrive in a hands-on, technical field environment.
Within two months of the date of hire, the individual should have received training and passed written examinations to show proficiency in the use and aerial lifts, the ability to work safely on a scaffold and the use of supplied air respiratory protection (including fit testing, a physical and pulmonary function test).
Within three months of date of hire, the individual should possess "Transportation Worker Identification Card" (TWIC) credentials. Demonstrate confidence, competence and an ability to work safely at heights in an industrial environment.Within six months of hire date, the AES environmental technician may should attend and successfully complete both the lecture and field certification portions of an EPA Method 9 visible emissions evaluator course.
