Job Description

AECOM has an exciting career-defining opportunity for an Environmental Planning Practice Manager to lead our environmental planning team in Southern California (San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles areas) and Honolulu, HI (So Cal/HI). In this important leadership role, you will lead and grown a diverse team of environmental planners and CEQA/NEPA technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering environmental planning, impact assessment, permitting and compliance services to our key clients. AECOM’s Environmental Planning Practice serves numerous federal, state and local government, non-governmental organization, and private industry clients, delivering a variety of resource management, infrastructure, and development-related projects. The role involves serving as a people manager to lead and grown the Environmental Planning practice in So Cal/HI, as well as being a seller-doer to lead business development activities and ensure strong execution and delivery of So Cal/HI projects. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience (project teams, clients, and technical), excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, and flexibility to lead and support a multitude of diverse proposals and projects.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

People Leader:

  • Serve as supervisor for SoCal/HI env planning team leaders (4-6 direct reports)
  • Ensure effective workload distribution for practice, as well as coordination with the broader West Region
  • Promote staff development.
  • Mentor senior staff for technical and/or people leadership roles
  • Coordinate with the So Cal/HI Department Manager and West Region Leadership

Grow the Environmental Planning Business in SoCal/HI:

  • Lead development of a strategic plan for the SoCal/HI planning team that identifies greatest opportunities in the market (e.g., funding streams, key clients, market trends, etc.) and articulates a disciplined approach to maximize growth (by end of Q1)
  • Network with existing clients across SoCal/HI to increase the volume and value of opportunities in the AECOM pipeline, focusing on maximizing MSAs/on-call contracts.
  • Serve as capture manager on select opportunities including win strategy, solution development, competitor analysis, and identifying resources to fully respond to the bid requirements.
  • Serve as CAM for key SoCal and/or HI clients (list to be developed)
  • Facilitate coordination of cross-team/department collaboration to ensure winning team and technical approach during proposal development and project execution.

Support Execution of Environmental planning projects in Southern California:

  • Directly engage in critical SoCal/HI Planning projects as a Senior Technical Advisor/SME
  • Support execution teams to ensure strong delivery on SoCal Planning projects.
  • Advance consistent approaches for delivering high-quality, profitable work.
