Amazon is looking for a talented and self-motivated Environmental Management System (EMS) Program Manager to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers and more. AWS is committed to running our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible, and our scale allows us to achieve higher resource utilization and energy efficiency than the typical on-premises data center. The successful candidate will join the AWS Environmental team, an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance and highest level environmental performance of AWS’s data center global operations. The Environmental team has responsibility for building and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs aligned to ISO 14001 EMS (Environmental Management System). An EMS is a set of processes and technologies/tools that collectively through data driven decisions, enable the Enviro Team, both in the field and programs, to systematically and continually, over time, reduce its environmental impacts, enhance compliance and increase its environmental performance and program scalability throughout all data centers. This role requires a highly skilled professional to manage complex, ambiguous initiatives across organizational boundaries. The ideal candidate must lead regional projects, influence stakeholders, and work independently while seeking guidance when needed. Strong strategic and tactical skills are essential, including balancing short and long-term needs, mitigating risks, and delivering simplified solutions. Excellent communication skills are crucial, with the ability to present to senior leadership and write strategic narratives. The role involves mentoring, recruitment, and process improvement. Cross-functional collaboration and consensus-building are key. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is vital, focusing on challenging the status quo and creating inclusive products. Key job responsibilities
1. Leadership and commitment. Collaborate with top management to review and update AWS's environmental policy, ensuring it remains relevant and effective. Ensure the ISO14001 aligned EMS evolves to meet changing organizational needs, stakeholder expectations, and environmental challenges, and securing necessary resources and support for continuous EMS improvement.
2. Risk management and planning. Lead the ongoing identification and assessment of environmental aspects and impacts across AWS global operations. Develop and implement strategic plans to address significant environmental risks and opportunities, setting ambitious yet achievable environmental objectives and targets.
3. Implementation and operation. Oversee the design and deployment of environmental programs and operational controls to enhance environmental performance. Ensure compliance with legal and other requirements, and lead environmental training and awareness programs to embed sustainability practices throughout the organization.
4. Performance evaluation. Establish and manage a robust system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting environmental performance. Conduct regular internal audits of the EMS and regulatory compliance and analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement. Present performance reports and recommendations to top management.
