The Sexton business fits within the ITW Drawform Division and is a market leader in the manufacture of high-pressure aerosol cans and after-market filter shells and is seeking a Engineering Technician for its Decatur, AL facility, located 30 minutes Southwest of the Huntsville area.
Job Description
The New Product Development Engineering Technician supports the ITW Sexton manufacturing facility in Decatur, AL. The position owns the development of new products and functions as a technical liaison between the innovation team, operations, quality and sales. The position also ensures compliance with the Department of Transportation and other regulatory agencies. This is a multi-faceted role which engages with internal and external stakeholders at many levels of the organization.
Lead product planning at all levels of the product development cycle, providing input to new part set-ups and prototype & development testing.
Provide engineered solutions, including design, to manufacturing and assembly issues & may assist with writing capital expense projects.
Develops and modifies performance specifications for new products that meet customer requirements, Department of Transportation requirements, and ITW Sexton (production/quality/throughput) requirements.
Document design process to be maintained for future legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for the organization and retention of all drawings for components, assemblies, designs, tooling and equipment.
Work with Sales, Operations, Quality and Innovation Team to resolve non-conformance issues and ensure implementation of corrective actions.
Develop bills of materials, specification documents, schedule proper production timelines to meet customer demands.
Responsible for the design and drawing of new tools.
Assist in writing DOT Special Permits Exemptions.
Acts as a Technical Liaison for Sales in support of existing customers and products.
Provides competitive analysis support on market, products or customer specific opportunities, including the feasibility of new or changed products, as well as new technologies.
Follow all procedures as outlined in the ISO 9001 Quality System.
Follow all safety and environmental policies and procedures of ITW Sexton.
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Engineering or Equivalent STEM background required.
A minimum of 3-5 years of drawn metal or can manufacturing experience preferred.
Experience with project management software and techniques, including Solid Works and AutoCAD.
Experience with aerosol can and DOT 39 cylinder specifications.
Effectively apply an “outside in” approach to problem solving from the customer perspective
Experience in a high-pressure manufacturing environment with exposure to production machines and hand tools
Proven verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills.
