Job Description

The City of San Antonio is looking to fill multiple engineering positions. Applications from this posting may be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing engineering work championing major City projects and initiatives, and responding to requests from residents and City leadership. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment, though working in the field may be required. May exercise direct functional and technical supervision over assigned staff.

This advertisement will be used to fill any of the following Engineer positions

  • Engineering Associate: $59,000.24- $87,207.12 Annually
  • Senior Engineering Associate: $64,097.02- $96,145.66 Annually
  • Engineer I:  $85,896.20- $128,844.30 Annually
  • Traffic Engineer: $99,435.70- $149,153.68 Annually

Essential Job Functions

Engineering Associate

  • Performs the necessary preliminary work for the design and construction of public works projects.
  • Directs subordinate personnel in the performance of all preparatory work (depending on area of assignment).
  • Revises project plans and specifications and legal requirements.
  • Inspects construction in progress for conformance with plans and specifications and makes adjustments when necessary.
  • Prepares cost estimates and monitors budgets on assigned projects.


Senior Engineering Associate

  • Responsible for creating design specifications for various public works projects.
  • Performs detailed engineering calculations.
  • Prepares analysis reports of assigned engineering projects.
  • Performs site assessments and environmental assessments as needed.
  • Conducts public meetings and various public relations tasks which may include media briefings.
  • Supervises assigned staff in the day-to-day operations and directs project staff as needed.
     

Engineer I

  • Supervises professional, technical, and other employees in the development, design, construction, and maintenance of principal public works projects.
  • Reviews design plans, project specifications, and cost estimates; attends review meetings; and identifies and solves design problems.
  • Approves plans and specifications for construction contracts.
  • Requests and evaluates consultant fee proposals; monitors and approves compensation for professional engineering services.
  • Upgrades new installations involving traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, and traffic counting.
  • Reviews bid packages prepared by consultants.
     

Traffic Engineer

  • Provides traffic and transportation engineering services to develop the City's overall traffic and transportation plan. 
  • Applies technical expertise to the development, design, construction, and maintenance of projects relating to traffic and transportation engineering services.
  • Reviews design plans, project specifications, and cost estimates in relations to traffic control; attends review meetings; and identifies and solves traffic and transportation design problems.
  • Coordinates with other city departments in reviewing the transportation related elements of engineering plans for correctness and compliance to policies, ordinances and procedures of the city, state, and federal government.
  • Develop and implement programs to increase pedestrian, bicycle, and transit safety and mobility.
