About the team: 

The ML Data Shop team is part of the data centric AI ML infrastructure vital for Cruise’s global expansion and commercial scaling. We build a highly reliable, scalable, and cost effective platform to search for impactful on-road scenarios, label the data, prepare the resulting dataset for model training, and close the model performance feedback loop.

About the role: 

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with strong track records of fostering a culture of psychological safety, dependability, and clarity. You will support a high performance team delivering a data search and mining platform to surface vital data for Cruise’s data needs. 

*Position can be based in either San Francisco or Seattle areas.

What you’ll be doing: 

• Support a team of strong engineers delivering a data search and mining platform to surface vital data for Cruise’s data needs.
• Help grow the team by playing an essential role in recruiting activities, onboarding new hires, and mentoring junior engineers
• Drive long-term planning and establish scalable processes for execution.
• Work with teams across Cruise to foster a collaborative culture of quality and safety
• Help define, build, and model Cruise engineering culture and principles to deliver high quality products while maintaining great work life balance for the team.

What you must have: 

• 3+ years experience supporting high performance engineering teams.
• 3+ years experience building highly reliable and scalable managed services.
• Experience with search, data mining, recommendation engine, or multimedia retrieval.
• Effective at creating, communicating, and executing on team vision and strategy.
• Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.
• Startup mentality - openness to dealing with unknown unknowns and wearing many hats.

Bonus points! 

• Experience working on model performance feedback loops.
• Experience working on projects using data centric AI, active learning techniques.
• Experience using Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Beam or other data processing tools
• Track record of impact in the AI industries
