Engineering Manager: Core ML Systems [Remote - US or Canada]

About You 

As an Engineering Manager on our Message Detection team, you and your team are ultimately responsible for the main product and capabilities of Abnormal Security - determining if an email is an attack, a scam, or legitimate business communication. We protect and empower our customer’s against nefarious adversaries - and end up saving them considerable time and money in the process.

The team you lead here will own the core set of ML models and the critical detection control layer which orchestrates across these models, rules, and algorithms to drive an informed decision. So while this team is home to our "machine learning" efforts - this is NOT a role for a "Data Science Leader" or someone focused on Research. Instead, we're looking for a leader who's core focus has been on facilitating the growth and success of ML-adjacent, production-deployed, software engineering teams.

In this job, you will bring these skills

• Ability to work with cross-functional teams & customers to establish requirements and ensure their downstream clarity
• Ability to create and execute on hiring plans to meet roadmap deliverables and budgetary requirements
• Ability to establish and maintain repeatable processes to streamline design docs, roadmap planning, and overall goal tracking and attainment.
• Ability to identify potential technical roadblocks and help provide proven solutions to avoid/mitigate

 

Qualifications: 

• 5+ years of professional experience as a hands-on engineer (either MLE or SWE) building data-oriented products and/or ML systems/products
• 2+ years of experience managing production ML-adjacent Software Engineering teams 
  • This is NOT a "research" position or an "applied science" team
  • We build end-to-end, production, ML solutions and are open to leaders who come from a variety of similar industries and domains

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading "online"/Real-Time ML Engineering efforts to success
• Interest in security, fraud detection, or other adversarial ML space
  
• Experience with high-throughput & low-latency distributed systems
