Mechanical Engineering Intern (Summer)
Paid Hourly - 40hrs/week - Hybrid
Summary of the role
We are looking for a self-motivated Mechanical Engineering student (Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student) to join our Mechanical Engineering team as an engineering intern. Candidates who demonstrate proficient in the following areas will be given preference: Machine Design, Statics, Dynamics, Solids, Strength of Materials, and 2D/3D Modeling.
Positions will begin in May 2025. Fall internships for 2025 will also be available.
The engineering team is responsible for the design of large hydro generator and turbine components, with a primary focus on U.S. projects. This position includes technical responsibility for the mechanical design during the manufacturing and installation phases of projects. The unique requirements of each hydro project make this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a candidate with related skills and experience.
The Mechanical Engineering Intern is expected to work closely with colleagues in the engineering department as well as the project management, manufacturing, and installation teams.
During the summer months interns are expected to work 40 hours per week. Interns are strongly encouraged to continue work during the school semester on a personalized schedule around classes. The expectation for working during the semesters is 15 hours per week.
The following responsibilities form the core of this role:
- Analysis of mechanical components, using in-house tools or developing calculations as necessary;
- Documentation for technical reports and customer O&M manuals;
- Review and approval of mechanical drawings to ensure contractual and internal requirements are met;
- Creation of engineering instructions that define technical requirements for manufacturing , installation and testing;
- Review and analysis of site data and testing;
- Creation of engineering documentation supported by designers and drafters.
- Participate in problem solving and root cause identification;
- Participate in the planning of engineering activities related to the portfolio of projects on which he/she is assigned and report progress to internal project team;

- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- CAD proficiency required (Siemens NX preferred);
- Excellent problem solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity;
- Ability to work with people in a team environment;
- Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously;
- Solutions focused while managing the needs of both internal and external customers;
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities;
- Knowledge of MS Office suite, and relevant IT tools.
