The Role:

 

Support NW Natural’s Integrity Management (TIMP and DIMP) Programs. Provide design and project management expertise related to pipeline projects and management of materials used in the transmission and distribution systems. Provide support for the Company in state/federal pipeline safety regulation audits. Coordinate work with other departments to meet customer needs, cost objectives, regulatory requirements, and safety and engineering standards.

Day to Day:

 

  • Assist with projects related to improving the integrity of the NW Natural transmission and distribution natural gas system.  
  • Support projects with internal and external operations crews to assure safe completion and success.
  • Provides technical input to assist in the continual improvement of NW Natural’s integrity management programs.
  • Evaluates, recommend and coordinates pipeline assessment services.  Assists in the interpretation of assessment data.
  • Contribute to the design of pipeline modifications to permit the passage of inline inspection tools.
  • Assist in the review and certification of materials used in the NW Natural transmission and distribution system to ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, Federal Codes and NW Natural Engineering Specifications.
  • Work with data provided by the NW Natural Integrity team to evaluate the risk results to the NW Natural distribution facilities and assist in the development of system improvement projects to remediate the risk and enhance pipeline safety.
  • Member of the NW Natural Engineering Specifications, Standards and Procedures team that reviews and creates new Engineering documents.
  • Coordinate with Integrity Specialists and Project Management Office to implement integrity projects by obtaining permits, track Executive approval and monitor construction costs of projects.
  • Suggests improvements/alternatives to the designs, construction techniques and procedures to enhance the field operations of integrity projects.
  • Support the Integrity team during state and federal safety regulation audits.
  • Supports the NW Natural commitment to a culture of safe work practices.

Come on your first day with:

 

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering.
  • Engineering (Level 1) requires 1 year of experience, Engineering (Level 2) requires 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience in utility construction.
  • The ability to register as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Oregon is highly desired.
  • Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization and across department areas.
  • Proven skills in PC/computer mainframe systems, including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Must have strong systemic and critical thinking skills and the ability to use logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
  • Problem-solving and creative thinking skills.  Ability to manage and track details while maintaining big picture concepts.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills including the ability to identify needs, evaluation and present results.
  • Ability to meet deadlines include effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function in a team environment, provide information to team members in a professional manner.
  • Ability to visit and access construction and project worksite locations as required.
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon or Washington driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
