Engineer II, Systems Design

Position Summary: The Systems Design Engineer is primarily responsible for design, specification, commissioning, and support of prototype and industrial automation equipment and data systems at Biomason’s manufacturing partner site(s). This position reports to the Senior Manager, Systems Engineering and works collaboratively with R&D, Process Engineering, and External Parter/Integrator teams.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
3+ years of technical, experience in automated fluidic or conveyance industrial systems - Mechanical
Proficient in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably Autodesk Inventor and suite
Competency in Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Static and Dynamic Loading, Thermodynamics, and Materials Science for informing system design
Ability to design tests to evaluate design and subsequently analyze test data for decision making/review
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills for supporting manufacturing equipment
Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) software/process
Familiarity with 2D and 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools, including P&ID, PFD, BOM Generation, and ECOs
Experience in specifying industrial equipment like pumps, blowers, heaters, mixers, valves, and filters for medium to large-scale volume implementations
Adaptable to changing company goals and directions, with the ability to shift tasks and projects quickly.
Proficient in writing clear and comprehensive technical documentation, including machine SOPs, BOMs, and technical engineering drawings
Demonstrates strong data collection, and documentation management
A strong team player who can self-manage
Comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills
Able and willing to travel for up to 35%
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations
Knowledge of polymer/plastics and metal fabrication methods and techniques
Hands-on experience with computer-aided manufacturing (CAM)
Duties/Responsibilities:
Design, develop, manufacture, and analyze equipment prototypes
Support equipment installation, qualification, and documentation (FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ)
Provide continuous improvement for existing manufacturing systems
Conduct experiments, data analysis, and design reviews for system optimization
Write technical documentation, including Equipment SOPs for operators
Interface with Biomason project managers as well as external vendors to complete technology transfer to new sites/factories on schedule, with high quality
Analyze, test and evaluate theoretical designs and hold design reviews
Identify (root cause), formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems
Evaluate final product performance, reliability, and safety
Modify designs to meet requirements and eliminate malfunctions
Estimate project budgets and scopes
