Job Summary
Dominion Energy is currently seeking experienced Engineer II or III or Engineering Technical Specialist II or III for the Mechanical Systems Engineering Groups at the Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT. Position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The primary area of focus will be that of a secondary or primary plant systems engineer in support of an operating nuclear power plant. Systems for which the candidate may be responsible over time include Reactor Coolant System, Emergency Core Cooling, Main Steam, Condensate, Feedwater, Feedwater Heaters/Vents/Drains, Condensate Polishing, Turbine, Turbine Generator mechanical systems and other miscellaneous secondary support systems.
Specific duties include:
The development and implementation of system monitoring and trending plans to ensure system health, Development of short and long term plans to maintain and improve the system reliability, Development and review of engineering technical evaluations and calculations supporting system operation, Additional duties include providing support of system functional performance testing as well as both planned and emergent maintenance, Provide engineering support of operational and maintenance activities during power operation and plant outages. Perform walkdowns, investigations, and develop corrective actions. Support Emergency Response Organization, Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Candidates will be expected to possess and further develop familiarity with their assigned area of responsibility. Training will be provided as appropriate to advance the candidate’s current knowledge and skills in their assigned area, as well as nuclear power plant operation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Engineer II/ Engineer Tech Spec II candidates (3-5 years of experience) will be expected to lead small, cross-functional groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability. They are expected to be able to work with minimal supervisor direction.
- Engineer III/ Engineer Tech Spec III candidates (5+ years of experience) will be expected to lead larger, multi-discipline groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability. They are expected to be able to work independently on assigned tasks. This specific position may lead special efforts to improve and sustain equipment reliability.
- Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals;
- Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position;
- Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives;
- Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management;
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);
- Planning, organizational and project management skills;
- Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills;
- Effective decision making skills;
- Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment;
- Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
