Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively seeking an engineer with structural assessment focus or interest and commercial diving certification to perform both structural design and inspections. The successful new hire will join either our Walnut Creek or Oakland, CA or Baton Rouge, LA offices and local dive team. As the new hire, you will be working with a team of experienced professional engineer-divers that provides consulting services to clients nationally. Occasional travel to other areas throughout the U.S. and abroad will also be required, but most evenings you will be home. The principal function of this position is to be part of a team that evaluates marine structures and ports through above and underwater engineering inspections; follow-on report preparation; load-rating analyses; remaining service life analyses; and development of structural repair, rehabilitation, or replacement designs. Design tasks will include conceptual development; operational considerations; structural analysis; and preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates. You will utilize modern workflows that include field tablets, UAS (drones), nondestructive testing and evaluation, marine mapping and imaging, analysis and modeling tools. We perform these inspections for marine terminal operators, private clients, states, municipalities, the US Navy and many more!

Duties and responsibilities:

- Performs site investigations of marine structures, bridges, and other infrastructure assets
- Ensures that the scope of work is fulfilled as directed and that the contracted deliverable is submitted out on schedule and as budgeted
- Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines
- Analyzes deficient components of marine structures to assess load capacity
- Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates and supporting documentation
- Assists with civil and structural design
- Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred and required within 6 months of commencing employment
- Certified Commercial Diver is required; ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, ADAS or completion of a US military equivalent diving school required
- NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus
- 2 to 4 years of diving experience; design experience strongly preferred
- Possess a valid driver's license in good standing
- Ability and willingness to travel as required. Travel can be up to 1 to 2 weeks in duration
- Boater Safety Card preferred
