Job Description:

Launch your engineering career on the Navy’s front lines as an Engineer Associate with GDIT.

You’ll support Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific Codes 55131/55132/55133) delivering Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) and related tactical network capabilities across ashore, afloat, subsurface, airborne, mobile, and joint environments. You’ll gain hands-on experience in labs and classified spaces—building, integrating, testing, and documenting mission networks that warfighters depend on.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

  • Build, rack/stack, power, and cable lab systems; label, document, and validate connectivity (fiber/copper, VLANs, trunk/access).

  • Install and baseline OS images (Windows/Linux) and virtual hosts/guests (VMware ESXi/Workstation); stand up small test topologies.

  • Execute checklists for System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT) and Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E); capture logs and test data.

  • Run basic diagnostics (ping, traceroute, iperf, Wireshark); isolate Layer 1–3 issues and escalate with clear fault isolation notes.

  • Apply vendor updates and security patches; assist with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) checklists and Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) scans under senior guidance.

  • Update engineering drawings (block/rack elevations), bills of material (BOM), cable running sheets, and “as-built” packages.

  • Submit/track configuration items in CMPro; support change control (CCB), trouble reports, and asset accountability.

  • Contribute to installation design package (IDP) inputs and site survey artifacts; support field events alongside senior engineers.

  • Coordinate daily with NIWC engineers, program office staff, and Fleet users; produce concise status notes and technical minutes.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (Required):

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance.

  • Experience: 1 - 2 years with PC/server hardware, basic networking (TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs), and Windows/Linux administration; comfort working in racks with power/fiber/copper.

  • Skills: Scripting fundamentals (PowerShell/Bash/Python), documentation discipline, and familiarity with ticket/change tools (Jira/ServiceNow).
  • Certifications: DoD 8140/8570 IAT II baseline (e.g., Security+ CE) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Physical/Availability: Onsite in San Diego, CA; able to lift 40 lbs, work in lab/shipboard spaces, and support occasional CONUS/OCONUS travel.
  • Education: BS/BA in Electrical/Computer/Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent military training/experience considered.

  • Work Location: Onsite NIWC Pacific, San Diego, CA (labs/shipyards/fleet concentration areas). Limited CONUS/OCONUS travel as tasking requires; ability to work in classified labs and onboard ships/submarines/airborne ground sites.

  • Position Availability: Position is pending final contract award.

  • US Citizenship Required

WHAT WE’D LOVE FOR YOU TO HAVE (Desired):

  • CCNA or equivalent networking certification; Linux+/RHCSA; VMware VCP-DCV (associate level acceptable).

  • Hands-on with VMware ESXi/NSX, Cisco IOS/NX-OS, GPON/QoS, and TACLANE/VPN basics.

  • Exposure to CANES/ADNS or other Navy tactical networks; familiarity with RMF/eMASS artifacts, STIGs, ACAS/NESSUS.

  • Experience with CM tools (CMPro), requirements/tools (DOORS), and diagramming (Visio/Cameo).

  • COMSEC awareness and working knowledge of classified lab procedures/SCIF etiquette.

  • ITIL Foundation and/or basic automation (Ansible) a plus.
